Priorities - Expectations of The Four Pillars

PrioritiesWe are inviting community proposals which support programs and services for families with young children with an emphasis on activities that involve both the parent and child.  We support collaborative and creative initiatives that are community-based, inclusive and accessible to all families.  We encourage a variety of activities that build healthy child development through the four priorities listed below:

Positive Parenting: Activities to support and enhance parents’ ability to nurture the healthy development of their children.  Some examples could include parent education programs, parent support groups, information and referral services, parent-child groups and activities, toy and resource libraries, and drop in activities.

Nutrition and Physical Health: Activities to promote good nutrition and healthy lifestyles through education and community supports.  Applications requesting dollars for snacks are encouraged to use funding for healthy choices. Some examples could include parent education programs, nutrition guidance, community kitchens, and activities promoting physical activity and fitness, injury prevention.

Learning and Literacy: Activities to support the learning success of children through opportunities to improve family literacy and numeracy and participate in quality early childhood experiences. Some examples could include creative play and recreation programs, reading, writing and storytelling activities, lending libraries.

Community Capacity: Activities to support partnerships within your community through leadership opportunities, volunteering and community service.  Some examples could include education, networking, and exchanging information on research and best practices, engaging communities in planning programs and service.
